For many years, I have been creating the annual poster for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival at Charlie Scott’s Bar.
Charlie Scott’s is a cherished pub and live venue in Copenhagen that, for over 15 years, has played a key role in Denmark’s jazz scene—nurturing local talent and welcoming international artists, with a special connection to the rich musical traditions of New Orleans.
The 2024 poster is a visual homage to jazz, deeply rooted in the cubist art style. Inspired by early 20th-century Cubism, the artwork breaks down instruments and their surroundings into geometric forms, building an abstract yet cohesive composition. In this piece, a saxophone, piano, sousaphone, and clarinet seem to emerge from the same visual language—shapes that overlap, intersect, and echo one another.
This approach mirrors the improvisational and layered nature of jazz itself. Just as jazz fuses rhythm, harmony, and melody into something greater than its parts, the poster fuses form, structure, and perspective into a bold artistic expression. The result is a stylized, modern visual that feels timeless—both a celebration of music and of artistic experimentation.
